FKJ Releases 3 Recordings From First Session With Full Band “The Nightbirds” & Curates BBC “Mini Mixtape”

Parisian multi-instrumentalist FKJ is undoubtedly one of the most talented musicians in the game. He’s had quite the busy summer, recently sharing two live videos – one of him performing his track “Die With A Smile” with the backdrop of an aquarium and the other, his more recent live collaboration with Masego, “Tadow.” Tie these in with his debut album “French Kiwi Juice,” and FKJ has already taken the world by storm in the first half of 2017.

Now FKJ has joined forces with fellow musicians Wayne Snow, Darius, and Crayon to form a full band called The Nightbirds, which he says performs “improvised music.” Their first session is out today via Roche Musique, consisting of three songs: “Midnight Run,” “Gonna Be Alright,” and “Goodbye.” The first track transitions seamlessly into the next, with all three maintaining a chill and trippy downtempo vibe. Stream below:

Moreover, FKJ recently curated a “Mini Mixtape” for BBC Radio, in which he discusses his musical background and influences. He shows us some of his favorites, including music from Mild High Club and Aretha Franklin, and he makes sure to throw in a couple of his own tracks too. It’s evident that FKJ is a Jack-of-all-trades, and his talents shine in his latest material. We can be sure that he won’t be slowing down anytime soon. For now, check out his mini-mix below and enjoy!

[PREMIERE] Manic Focus Delivers New Remix For Liquid Stranger & Mr.Bill’s “Frankenskank”

It’s been a while since we’ve shared any new music from Manic Focus. The last time the Chicago-based artist’s’ name graced the site was for his electro soul singles “Stronger” and “Habit” which dropped earlier this year. But today, we have the pleasure of premiering yet another brand new Manic Focus track, this time in the form of a remix of Liquid Stranger & Mr.Bill’s “Frankenskank”.

This latest Manic Focus offering comes as part Liquid Stranger’s brand new Weird & Wonderful Remix EP. Starting out with some vocal chops and dub-inspired drums from the original, Manic Focus boosts the tempo and adds his own unique spin on things. Abrasive growls, distant vocals and some bright playful synths take the track in-and-out of lighthearted progressions and dark, bass-heavy drops.

Having teamed up in February for a sold out show at Washington DC’s 9:30 Club, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see some more Liquid Stranger x Manic Focus shows happening in the very near future…but we can only hope.

Liquid Stranger’s hand-picked, five-track remix EP is now available to stream and download via his label, WAKAAN. Check out Manic Focus’ remix of “Frankenskank” below and enjoy!

REZZ Drops Sinister Single “Premonition” With Rising Artist knodis

Canadian producer REZZ has been on her game these past few months. The deadmau5-influenced artist brings a fascinatingly sinister sound to the table, a signature that has deepened with each of her 2017 releases. Just a few weeks ago we heard the first dark single, titled “Relax,” from her forthcoming album Mass Manipulation. Riding the high from that powerful original, REZZ dropped “Diluted Brains” last week along with the announcement of a stacked world tour.

Today we’re happy to be featuring the third single from this album, “Premonition” with mysterious newcomer knodis. Besides knodis’ Canadian roots, not much is known about the artist. knodis has apparently produced with various artists under a past project that hasn’t been revealed, with this collab alongside Rezz being the first under the new moniker. If it’s any sign of what’s to come, knodis is certainly one to watch.

“Premonition” takes things a step further from that dark sound we’ve come to know and love from REZZ. An almost robotic, wicked-sounding beat persists throughout the track, with the artists tying in some powerful otherworldly elements to create a vibe that’s both ominous and atmospheric. The producers skillfully blend in layer after layer of production, both with the alien synth builds and the haunting basslines.

Gramatik Links With Galactic Marvl For Heavy Dubstep Inspired Single “Voyager Twins”

Gramatik has been making a very steady comeback so far this year. The Slovenian producer’s 2017 has consisted of linking back up with GRiZ for another long-awaited Grizmatik track, joining forces with Ramzoid on a unique remix of  Flume’s “Wall Fuck”  and dropping his own soulful single, “Recovery” (Ft. Eric Krasno). Today, to continue his streak, he’s teamed up with up-and-coming producer Galactic Marvl on a brand new collaboration titled “Voyager Twins”.

Gramatik and Galactic Marvl’s diverse sounds make for a perfect match on this latest offering. The track starts out with some soulful electronic piano before slowly layering in with some wonky synths and skittering percussion. A quick guitar riff throws the track into a funky dubstep drop filled with abrasive growls, piercing synths and hard-hitting drums.

Having cooked up a good amount of new material while recovering from a leg injury at the end of 2016, Gramatik is set to release lots more where this came from. Check out Gramatik and Galactic Marvl’s “Voyager Twins” below and enjoy!

A$AP Rocky Teams With Fellow A$AP Mob Member Twelvyy For New Single “Diamonds”

After years of a staple in the A$AP crew, A$AP Twelvyy is finally getting ready to release his debut album. To hype up the project he’s linked up with none other than A$AP Rocky for a new collaboration “Diamonds”.

Twelvyy has been working alongside Rocky since the beginning, and this new single sounds like the classic A$AP sound from a time capsule and it’s sounding amazing. This single “Diamonds” samples Phantogram’s track “Mouthful of Diamonds” and utilizes the sample perfectly in the atmospheric production. The extra chill track makes use of pitched down vocals and lush soundscapes as both Rocky and Twelvyy sound great on their verses with a falsetto chorus thrown in as well. Stay tuned for Twelvyy’s debut album 12, which is due Aug. 4. Enjoy!

Listen & Download Tyler, The Creator’s Incredible New Album ‘Flower Boy’

Tyler, The Creator‘s much-anticipated new album Flower Boy is here! Leading up to the project, Tyler was 3/3 on the outstanding singles he previously released: “Who Dat Boy (feat. A$AP Rocky),” “911/Mr. Lonely (feat. Frank Ocean & Anna of the North),” and “Boredom.”

Tyler, The Creator’s fourth studio album, Flower Boy, continues the summer vibes brought from the singles and creates an immediately enjoyable project. The final product is an impressive album from the 26-year-old artist and among some of the best music he’s ever made. It takes the melodic parts out his last album Cherry Bomb and combines them with the clever lyrics, rhyming schemes, and imagery he is known for.

In addition to the featured artists on the singles, the album features Lil Wayne, Kali Uchis, Jaden Smith, Estelle, and more. Through all the additions, Tyler still stands at the forefront of the album and carries it from start to end. The seventh track “Garden Shed” uses a metaphor for being in the closet and fans have speculated this song is him coming out, backed up by other lyrics on the album referencing this. Regardless of if this album acts as a personal statement or a collection of songs for fans to relate to, this is one we’ll be listening to all year. Enjoy!

Zeds Dead Drop New Mix For ‘DEADBEATS RADIO’ Episode 4

It’s been a little over a year since Zeds Dead launched their Deadbeats record label, and their momentum has continued to grow. As it stands, the duo has been increasingly busy with their own shows and releases, including their recent remix of their own track “Slow Down” and their upcoming collaboration with Illenium. Somehow, they’ve managed to run their Deadbeats label on top of this, with a huge, talent-filled roster consisting of Nebbra, Champagne Drip, Kid Froopy, and more.

As with the previous installments of Deadbeats Radio, “Deadbeats Radio #004” is curated and mixed by Zeds Dead and consists of releases on Deadbeats as well as some of their favorite songs right now. In true Zeds Dead fashion, this session maintains a heavy and energetic vibe overall; however, the “Dead Heat” segment of the mix, in which they play their favorite song of the week, consists of a light hearted stripped-down, electronic-infused country song from Branchez and Big Wet.

“Deadbeats Radio #004” spans dubstep, drum and bass, house, hip-hop, and trap and covers artists such as Mt Eden, Odd Mob, Bar9, Drake, and even Chemical Brothers. Essentially, there’s a little something for everyone here, but it all fits together seamlessly. Check out the full mix and tracklist below and enjoy!

GoldLink Covers Outkast’s “Roses” In Impressive Live Video [Watch]

GoldLink, who is behind recent collaborations such as “Boo You Know” with Falcons and “Let’s Go” with Khalid, has covered Outkast’s legendary song “Roses” on BBC Radio 1 and it is everything one could hope for. A frequent TSIS favorite, GoldLink released his debut album titled At What Cost this past march and since has become one of the hottest growing hip-hop artists in the game. He is an incredibly versatile artist, able to modify his voice to fit the theme of any song as he exhibits in this cover.

The cover definitely does the original justice, keeping the integrity but making the GoldLink touch inevitable. He sings the song incredibly well, showing to viewers that he is more than just a rapper, but rather a skilled vocalist and artist. The cover is, for the most part, the same as the original. However, receives an original verse from Hare Squead, who have worked with GoldLink in the past on tracks such as “Herside Story”. Enjoy!

[PREMIERE] Bearson Shares Extra Chill Hour Long Mixtape “Wave Tape Vol. 1”

We recently had the pleasure of launching our new Wave Tape series alongside labels Next Wave and Moving Castle we’ve been incredibly excited to present to you all. Now we officially have the first mixtape coming from Next Wave co-founder and TSIS favorite, Bearson, who we also had the pleasure of doing an interview with below.

This series brings new mixtapes from some of our favorite artists paired with parties at the Next Wave / Moving Castle storefront in LA that we’ve been live streaming from the TSIS Facebook page. Bearson has never disappointed us and this mixtape is no different. He seamlessly mixes 40 tracks packing everything from unreleased IDs to some of his own originals and others from Lido, Manila Killa, Jerry Folk, Flume, Rufus Du Sol and many many more throughout. With this mixtape, Bearson not only shows off his mixing abilities, but also showcases his impeccable ear and taste making abilities.

Also each of our live streamed parties have been next level so far so if you have a chance to check one out in LA, be sure to RSVP next time. Check out the interview and tracklist below. Enjoy!

Wave Tape Volume 1: Bearson

You’re a co-founder of Next Wave Records. Tell us a little bit about how the label came together.

It started out with Braedon reaching out to manage me and we just started talking online… From there, we came up with the concept of Next Wave and as the idea developed we decided to build it together, find dope music, and really just try to push great music. We built it to not be a typical label, we wanted it to be more of a label driven by artists.

What are some of your favorite releases that you guys have put out to date?

It’s Strange by Louis The Child is definitely one that comes to mind. It was one of the biggest releases to date and it really catapulted their career into something crazy. I really like all of the music that we put out, it’s kind of the key to the label. It’s important that every song we put out is a track that we truly believe in.

In terms of your own artist project [BEARSON], what can fans of look forward to next?

I have an upcoming single with Mr. Hudson. I’ve also been working on a bunch of other stuff for myself and for other artists in terms of writing and producing…so right now I’ve just been balancing my own project, as well as others.

Who are some of the artists that you’ve been working with?

I’ve been working on BØRNS’ project, St. Lucia…I also went to Nicaragua recently and got to work with Tove Lo, Carly Rae Jepsen, Walk The Moon, Foxes, Stargate and then a few others as well.

Do you play any instruments?

We just got a piano in the house so I’ve started to learn and play around with it. I also have been playing the guitar for a while. I’m still getting better and have really been enjoying it, it makes the creative process a bit better.

Back to the label and the new ‘Wave Tape’ series. What is the story and intention behind it?

It’s mainly to showcase talented artists and build an intimate setting for engaged fans. They get a chance to meet the artist, learn more about them, meet them in person, and recognize them as more than just a character on social media. Beyond that, it’s really to bring together the music community.

The debut ‘Wave Tape’ was last week in LA and it featured yourself, Sweater Beats, and others. Tell us about the mix and some of the unreleased IDs we caught in the mix.

This set was just all about putting in the music that I like and not necessarily …idk….it’s just fun to me to jump around to different genres and not really stick to one thing, because I enjoy so many different types of music. There are a few surprises in there that aren’t released yet, that you’ll get to hear later.

This Thursday is the 2nd Wave Tape with Manila Killa and Robotaki. Do you guys have other Wave Tapes in motion for this summer? Any details that you can give us on who they may be with?

We’re working on getting a bunch of cool people. We want to engage bands, singers, and even visual artists…not just Soundcloud DJs. There is definitely a bunch of dope stuff on it’s way.
