Promnite Shares Smooth Trap Remix Of Famous Dex & A$AP Rocky’s “Pick It Up”

Just a month after its release, Famous Dex‘s collaboration with A$AP RockyPick it Up” has already racked up over 50 million plays on streaming services. Promnite is jumping on the wave with a brand new remix of the song, building upon the hard-hitting beat created by FKi1st and Sosa808.

Promnite, founder of the Athletixx crew (with Falcons, Kittens, and Hoodboi) replaces the loud, arpeggiated synths of the original with keys and his own snares/808 drum pattern. The song builds up to A$AP Rocky’s verse, when the bass finally drops and the TNGHT-style horns come in to back his dizzying and technical flow. This new remix demonstrates Promnite’s ability to maintain the sound and style of the original track while making the beat his own. Enjoy!

Today’s release, titled “Over U,” is yet another example of that laidback signature.

Porter Robinson Threw An Artistic Warehouse Rave For Debut Virtual Self Live Show

As the lights faded on his debut show as VIRTUAL SELF, Porter Robinson grabbed the mic for the first time in his 2.5 hour set and addressed the crowd with an emotional speech explaining why he wanted to share this project with us.

For the last two years I’ve been wanting to play all this music and I had it all, all this time and I wouldn’t play any of it in a Porter Robinson DJ set. I was really waiting for this so it could be all one thing. And this has been a really, really long time coming and it’s my favorite thing in the world. – Porter Robinson

VIRTUAL SELF and last night’s UTOPiA warehouse rave are the result of Porter’s dedication to self-expression and connecting with his audiences through an immersive musical experience. This commitment isn’t new – Porter is known for putting on cohesive, emotional sets that leave people amazed and inspired. But VIRTUAL SELF is unique because Porter created it to express a side of himself that was not “Porter Robinson,” and in order to engage this side with his fans he crafted an immersive experience to introduce them to the new project.

Before the release of the debut VIRTUAL SELF EP, Porter launched a cinematic VIRTUAL SELF website featuring two characters with distinct musical styles that combine to make VIRTUAL SELF. Soon after that, rumors began circling of a VIRTUAL SELF show in New York after a fan found a poster in Brooklyn that matched the project’s aesthetic and simply hinted “12.08.17.” Porter eventually confirmed the rumors, put tickets up for sale, and his loyal fan base made sure the show quickly sold out.

All of this culminated in a massive gathering of music-lovers in a Brooklyn warehouse to witness Porter’s next move. After the openers DV-i and Raito finished their sets, VIRTUAL SELF introduced himself with hard-hitting techno opener that unleashed the crowd’s energy and set the tone for the night. The set itself defied any genre labeling as it seamlessly blended electronic elements from drum & bass, techno, house, and hardcore. The visual production used a song-customized combination of lasers, spotlights and strobes to take the crowd experience to new levels on each track. Text displaying cryptic phrases like “Am I still human?” or “This abyss is sacred.” frequently appeared on a screen behind Porter and added an existential feeling to an already otherworldly performance.

Porter’s passion on stage left no doubt that he was as hooked on VIRTUAL SELF as the crowd, and the entire night had a feeling of being the beginning of something exciting. The next VIRTUAL SELF show will be at the Buku Music + Art Project in New Orleans where attendees will be lucky enough to share in that passion themselves.

Hip-Hop Producer Statik Selektah Drops New Album “8″ Ft. Joey Bada$$, Run The Jewels, G-Eazy, Action Bronson & More

Legendary producer and DJ Statik Selektah released his eighth studio album 8 today, and the list of features is giant. Over the 17 tracks, he has recruited Run the Jewels, 2 Chainz, Action Bronson, Joey Bada$$, G-Eazy, and many, many more.

Statik Selektah built up anticipation for this album by releasing “Put Jewels on It (feat. Run the Jewels)” and “Ain’t a Damn Thing Change (feat. G-Eazy & Joey Bada$$), and the rest of the album does not disappoint. He still knows how to create a classic hip-hop beat that sounds incredibly fresh, and it’s great to hear some of these rappers over something different for them. Some of the highlights include the contemplative track with No Malice, who was in the group The Clipse with Pusha T, and the throwback banger with Raekwon and Royce da 5’9.

The whole album is worth listening to for its standout beats, and some of the lesser known names really shine on this. Enjoy!

Kayzo Drops Wild Dubstep Remix Of DJ Snake’s “A Different Way” Feat. Lauv

Los Angeles-based producer Kayzo is back today with yet another bass-infused release. This young artist has consistently caught our ears throughout 2017 with his unabashedly heavy signature, sharing wild releases like “WHISTLE WARS” and taking risks on slower tracks like “Without You” with Slander. For today’s remix he took on one of DJ Snake’s biggest releases of the year, “A Different Way” featuring Lauv. Needless to say, Kayzo gave this one the bass-fueled treatment we never knew it needed.

For those not familiar with Kayzo, the lead-in of this remix would probably trick you into thinking he flipped “A Different Way” into a more relaxed track. The first 30 or so seconds are subtle with chill guitar chords and steadily building percussion. This dives into a downright filthy drop that only Kayzo could pull off, with relentless pulsing bass and a raucous kick. The stark juxtaposition between the drop and the intro/bridge was a well-played move, making the mood of each stand out even more. Check out the remix below and enjoy!

Mura Masa Delivers Chilled Out Remix Of HAIM’s “Walking Away”

2017 has proved to be one of the biggest years in Mura Masa’s career thus far. Having dropped his self-titled debut album, several follow-up singles and numerous official remixes, today he’s continued his streak of success with a brand new remix of HAIM’s infectious single “Walking Away”.

Mura Masa is unique in the fact that every time he decides to put his own spin on a track, we hear something different – and this latest offering is no exception. Starting off with some bright strings, listeners will be immediately reminded of Lido’s “Drowning” remix, but then thrown for a loop as HAIM’s gentle, untouched vocals quickly float in over some bouncy synth arpeggios. Mura Masa’s juxtaposition of wonky, distorted bass, ping-pong vocal chops and non-traditional percussion, while unconventional, all blends together seamlessly to create his signature melancholic yet light-hearted vibe we’ve come to love. PREMIERE | DROELOE And Taska Black Collab On New Song “Running Away” (ft. CUT_) + Interview Each Other

Today we have the pleasure of premiering a very special track from some of our favorite rising artists. DROELOE and Taska Black (both of which may be recognizable from the bitbird Mega Collab and Gouldian Finch 2), have each been making a name for themselves over the past few years and today the bitbird labelmates link up on their new collaboration “Running Away” featuring CUT_. In addition, we had the pleasure of having DROELOE and Taska Black interview each other and give us insight on their favorite tracks of the year.

While both DROELOE and Taska Black sound fantastic on their own, this latest offering is truly something else. Starting off slow with some bright distant synths and vocals from fellow Netherlands-based duo CUT_ (who were featured DROELOE & San Holo’s “Lines of the Broken”), both DROELOE and Taska Black’s hard-hitting production styles blend together perfectly throughout the track. Filled with vibrant, high-pitched synths, warbling vocal chops and pulsing, distorted bass, the emotion and energy packed into this track is incredible.  Check out “Running Away” (ft. CUT_) below and make sure to keep an eye on DROELOE and Taska Black, as they’re both growing very very fast. Enjoy!

Taska Black x DROELOE – Running Away (Ft. CUT_)

DROELOE’s favorite tracks of 2017

1. Cashmere Cat – Europe Pools
2. Taska Black – Dreaming (ft. Nevve)
3. San Holo & James Vincent McMorrrow – The Future

4. Kendrick Lamar – Element
5. Boombox Cartel & QUIX – Supernatural (ft. Anjulie)

Taska Black’s favorite tracks of 2017

1. Post Malone – I fall apart
2. DROELOE x San Holo – Lines of the Broken
3. Kendrick Lamar  - Humble
4. Lauv – I Like Me Better
5. Cashmere Cat – 9 (ft. MO & Sophie)

DROELOE Interviewing Taska Black:

DROELOE: Besides “Make My Day,” which you’ve been on record saying was what you got you into our music, what is your favorite DROELOE record and why?

Taska Black: It’s so hard to name 1 favorite. I gotta say “zZz” was very refreshing and has been the top of my list for a long time. When “In Time” came out I listened to those vocal chops in the bridge a dozen of times, cry for days. And now “Kintsugi” is once again game changing.

D: Technically, this isn’t our first time collaborating because we worked on “If Only (Mega Collab)” together for GF2. How would you describe working on something as crazy as that?

Taska Black: I never expected it to turn out as compact and cohesive as it is. San did a great job orchestrating it all and he made sure everyone had their input in the track. It’s really cool to shape an idea and see it slowly evolve while other artists put their flavor to it.

D: You released on Lowly Palace for the first time the other week, your first ever non-bitbird release. What other labels are you thinking of working with through 2018?

TB: Although bitbird will stay kind of a home base, we’re definitely planning on branching out a bit more. I’d love to do something with Monstercat some time. OWSLA would be great too!

D: What was your favorite single moment of 2017 and why? Was it getting to put out a track with us?

TB: I see what you did there, Hein this was your question wasn’t it. No, for real, it’s crazy when looking back, just realizing it was only January of this year that I first  came to the Netherlands and got to meet with San and Thorwald (bitbird founders). It’s been great to meet everyone in person finally and getting to work with you guys, of course. Favorite moment would be bitbird label night at ADE, and the crazy B2B2B2B (?!?) to close it off.

D: If you could collaborate with any non-bitbird artists who would you pick?

TB: Alessia Cara, Cashmere Cat, Julia Michaels, Flume, RL Grime, EKALI, Louis The Child, … It’s a long list

D: Finally, what are your least favorite San Holo and DROELOE records?

TB: Next time I see you you better buy me some ramen to make up for this question.

“Lines of the Broken” by you and San sounds terrible, you really screwed up there (totally trolling here btw).

Taska Black interviewing DROELOE (Vincent Rooijers & Hein Hamers)

Taska Black: I know you guys meet up in school together working on a project for school. But was there a turning point where you guys realized, “hey let’s turn this into a real music project?”

Hein: I think it happened after we released our first two tracks on bitbird, “Make My Day” & “zZz”. They both did well which we didn’t expect. And at that point we were like ‘damn, we might just be able to turn this into something more than a joke that got out of hand haha.’

TB: How do you keep up with making music while on tour? Would you say it’s more inspiring all of the new experiences or just harder to keep focused and in touch with collaborators and more?

Vincent: Seeing a lot of cool things and places definitely inspires us to make music, so we try to make as much as possible, but I have to say it can get hard sometimes with the lack of sleep and the constant traveling. We never make music in planes (and you shouldn’t either!), because I don’t trust my ears while we’re in the air. Besides that, It is very nice to finally meet the people in the flesh who we’ve been collaborating with.

TB: What’s been your favourite single region (or show) that you’ve played and if you could give me one piece of advice for before I hit the road, what would it be?

H: I personally really love Southern California, the people are nice, the weather is nice. It feels like the crowd knows what they are listening to and are kind of cultured so to say. I don’t know, i just really like it there.

V: I feel the same, love Cali!! Taska, my advice would be; know where you are at… sounds pretty standard but when you are on the move all the time, and pretty tired, It can happen you just don’t remember in which city or state you’re in…. Definitely make sure you know this before you get on the mic during your set because it might get awkward haha.

TB: How drunk were you guys when you came up with the name DROELOE (which means tipsy in Dutch slang!)?

H: hahahahaha not that drunk to be honest. Maybe a little bit.

V: I think we weren’t drunk at all actually, but a late night playing GTA5 with the boys almost has the same effect lol.

TB: What are your three biggest goals in 2018 for DROELOE? I want one joint-music related goal, one joint-touring related goal and one personal goal from both of you guys.

H & V: Music wise, make more, obviously. Touring wise, do a solo headline tour i guess. That is what seems like the most logical step.

H: For me personally, try and workout more, especially on the road. And more DROELOE related, really try and see how we can involve more things then “just” music.

V: Also need to workout more. and I want to start reading again, I used to love that! Also really keen to experiment with more sounds recorded on the fly, so I’m thinking of buying a good portable recording thing.

TB: What’s your favourite track to play live and why? Is it “Core” by RL Grime?

H: Because i feel like Rafiki holding Simba every time i press play on that track.

V: ROFL

TB: When are we gonna start working on our next collab?

H: Ja snel, die B2B set moet wel wat tracks van ons beiden er in hebben.

V:  ja! let’s go boy!

G-Eazy Shares New Album Single “Sober” Ft. Charlie Puth

G-Eazy‘s forthcoming album The Beautiful and the Damned is just a week away, and he’s shared another single to hold fans over until the full project. This time around, he’s linked up with vocalist Charlie Puth for their new collaboration “Sober.”

The full album is coming along with a short film as he’s already shared a handful of singles including “Him & I” with Halsey, and his impressive lead single “The Plan.” This new single has a similar nighttime vibe to past releases with dark tones placed against Puth’s bright vocals. Charlie Puth kicks off the track and holds down the chorus with his whispy falsetto vocals while G ties them together with his calculated verses.

“In Love Again” showcases noticeable growth from these two, combining clean production and various instrumentals to create an infectious overall mood. The intro is subdued with simple piano keys, subtle production and steadily growing percussion flowing beneath crisp vocals. The drop, on the other hand, is jam-packed with impressively chopped-up vocal samples, a steady kick and animated synth melodies. A compelling violin bridge leads you from one drop to the next and ties the entire track together. Check out “In Love Again” below and enjoy!
